Day 6

A Tour of Isola

Sunday, August 25, 2024

Buongiorno,

On a long adventure like this we have learned that you need to have a down day every now and again.  A day to catch up on the washing, stock up on supplies and make preparations for the next stage of your journey.  Arrange accommodation and organise transport.  So that is what we did today.

What we thought we would do is share with you some photos we've taken over the last week of Isola, the neighborhood in Milano we are located.

Isola is a former working class district that has bloomed into a vibrant area with a distinct hipster vibe.  In the mornings it is very sleepy and quiet, but in the evenings there is a thriving restaurant scene.

There is a very basic pub located on the corner of our street.  Grandma is often the only female patron, and Koro is often the youngest.  It's a lovely place to watch the trams roll by, listen to the banter, and soak in the sun.

In Italy, when you order a beer, you also get a small dish of salty snacks.  Potato chips, maybe some bread sticks or peanuts.  It is the perfect accompaniment to your cold beer.  And all that saltiness makes you thirstier, so we suppose it is also smart business.

We hope you enjoyed out little tour of the neighborhood.  Tomorrow we'll have a story from somewhere different.

Love to you all from Grandma & Koro & Buzzy Bee.
